Hollywood has long been known for its massive movie-going crowds.
But the Hollywood Gate has been a magnet for an ever-expanding and increasingly crowded industry, with a new wave of movies popping up all the time.
Today, the gate’s popularity is in danger of reaching a tipping point, as the Hollywood Park and Lakefront theme parks are closing for good.
In fact, the Golden Gate Park’s closure comes on the heels of other park closures in the Bay Area and the Pacific Northwest, and it comes just a few months after Universal Pictures pulled the plug on its popular “Universal Monsters” series in favor of “The Amazing Spider-Man 3,” the sequel that will open in 2019.
But the Golden, Golden Gate, and Golden Gate fields remain the most popular entertainment destinations in California, and the gate is one of the only attractions that will remain open in the Golden State as the park continues to grow.
In 2018, the park attracted 2.7 million visitors, according to the California Department of Parks and Recreation, up 9 percent from the year before.
And the park has already added more than 5 million people to its attendance tally this year, making it the second-most-popular amusement park in the state behind Disneyland.
In 2019, the gates will close on August 30.
But for some, the closure is a welcome relief.
“I’ve seen the gate movies before, and I’ve never really been one to enjoy the gate,” said James Lee, who lives in San Francisco.
“But the gate was my gateway to the rest of California, so when it closes, I get a sense of accomplishment, of accomplishment in the sense of what a great place it is.”
The gate movie industry has been booming in recent years.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, gate movies have grown from 1,000 in 2016 to 2,000 this year.
According the Hollywood Entertainment Research Center, the industry will reach $1.9 billion by 2021.
While the industry is still expanding in many ways, the Hollywood entertainment industry is beginning to get its act together, said Steve J. Burdick, an entertainment industry analyst with IBISWorld.
“There is an evolution, and there is a growing recognition that the gate should be the gateway to everything,” he said.
The gate’s continued popularity has also brought with it more and more guests, as movie-goers have been seeking more entertainment options, including more immersive experiences.
And that’s why, despite the gates impending closure, Hollywood’s parks have been getting new movie-centric events like The Hollywood Lions Club, which features live performances, movie trivia, and a movie-themed party.
Tickets are $35 and can be purchased online at www.hollywoodlionsclub.com.
“We are hoping to be able to bring some of the events that the Hollywood Lions club has had in the past, and we’ll be adding a little more of a movie feel to the park,” said Liza D. DePinto, president and CEO of Hollywood Lions.
“And that includes movies and events, because we have a very diverse entertainment clientele.”
As of December 31, 2019, there were more than 13,500 movie-related events taking place in the park, according the Hollywood Film Library.
The Hollywood Park is also the home of the Golden Globe Awards, which has hosted some of Hollywood’s biggest and best moments, including James Garner’s Oscar-winning performance in “Silver Linings Playbook.”
But in 2017, the festival moved its location from the park to the Westin Hotel.
“The Golden Gate is the place to be,” said DePinton.
“This is where Hollywood loves to see its best talent, and to be a part of the Oscars and Golden Globes.”
For those who are still interested in attending a movie, the theater in the Hollywood Hills has a limited number of ticketed events, which include screenings, concerts, and movie-inspired events like the Hollywood Lion Club, The Hollywood Theatre, and Hollywood Studios.
“Our guests are getting really good and they’re excited about what they’re seeing,” said D.J. Leung, vice president and general manager of Hollywood Hills Theatre.
“A lot of people will say, ‘Well, I’m not really a movie person.
I just like the experience of seeing movies.
I’m a big fan of the movies, and that’s all I need to see.'”
While the gates are shutting down for the park’s first year, it is still possible to visit Hollywood, and even see the film “The Great Wall” on film in the Park.
The film is scheduled to be released in 2020.
“If you go, you’re going to see something very special,” said Burdicks co-founder, Steve J., who also works as an executive at The Weinstein Co. The movie is a historical drama that
